Bartering at the market is entirely unnerving. I love a good fight, but fighting for the price of my clothes, shoes, jackets, phone, cds/dvds, makeup, and stationary is just exhausting. Oh the tactics I have learned...shameful. Amidst my journeying yesterday I found a ZARA! Yay! They are really pushing Fall wools, boots, moccosins, and printed dresses. My favourites! Actually, the Zara is located in the coolest plaza I have seen yet, it is called Wangshujing (I think), and it's right off the metro line, so it's easy to get to. It had EVERYTHING! Coffee, modern shops, mini markets with pushy sellers, monuments to chinese history, a seven story mall, a five story bookstore, and a fountain. I loved it! I hope to make it my Sunday pick. I rode the Beijing subway for the first time yesterday and it was wild. It is amazing how many bodies can be crammed into a small space. I didn't even have to hold a handle, the surrounding bodies held me up. Personal space does not exist here...in my classes the boys cuddle with each other, the girls hold hands; in the market, the sellers will grab you until you pry their hands off; in the subway, you are likely going to be groped or robbed. I love the thrill of it all!
It is Sunday here today, I have a year old habit of feeling homesick on Sundays. Feelin a little less than one hun po today. But our department executive is taking us all out for a fancy lunch and kareoke in a little bit.
The best medicine for heartache is to keep busy. Tried, tested, and true.
Missin' you.
